It looks like residents of Georgia will be saving even more at the gas pump. Due to the slowing economy, Governor Sonny Perdue has cut the tax by 4 cents per gallon to help out Georgia Motorist. The new tax on a gallon of gas in Georgia will be 14.6 cents. Georgia motorist are currently experiencing prices not seen since the spring of 2004. According to Atlanta Gas Prices, some gas stations in Metro Atlanta are selling gas for $1.33 per gallon. At this rate a 20oz bottled water is going to become more expensive than a gallon of gasoline.
Even though gas prices are currently low and big vehicles are cheap, I sure wouldn’t go out and buy a gas guzzling vehicle. The Federal Government is considering raising the national gas tax, which is currently at 38 cents per gallon, by 50 percent. Also the demand for gas drops quite a bit during the winter months, thus reducing the price you pay per gallon. When spring returns and people start venturing out and taking vacations the prices are sure to start climbing again.
The new Georgia Gas Tax rate will go into effect on Thursday, January 8th.

Historical Prices for a Gallon of Gas in Atlanta, Ga.

Americans have real short memories. Once some of the credit markets start freeing up and with the cheap prices of large Ford and GM products, people will be out buying SUVs again. These cheap gas prices are not going to last for very long. Stupid is as stupid does.
I thought for a minute I was looking at my last 201K statement. I think lowering the gas tax is not smart. We are doing nothing but enabling bad habits. We need to use that money to research and develop alternative fuel sources.
