“The reasons for the increase vary. Some residents were worried it may become harder to get a gun during the Obama administration. Others said they just want to be able to protect their families, especially in high-crime areas. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the numbers in Georgia are in line with other increases across the country.”

So what does all this mean for everyone living in Georgia. Be nice to one another and think twice before you attempt to commit a crime against your fellow citizen.

It looks like residents of Georgia will be saving even more at the gas pump. Due to the slowing economy, Governor Sonny Perdue has cut the tax by 4 cents per gallon to help out Georgia Motorist. The new tax on a gallon of gas in Georgia will be 14.6 cents. Georgia motorist are currently experiencing prices not seen since the spring of 2004. According to Atlanta Gas Prices, some gas stations in Metro Atlanta are selling gas for $1.33 per gallon. At this rate a 20oz bottled water is going to become more expensive than a gallon of gasoline.

Even though gas prices are currently low and big vehicles are cheap, I sure wouldn’t go out and buy a gas guzzling vehicle. The Federal Government is considering raising the national gas tax, which is currently at 38 cents per gallon, by 50 percent. Also the demand for gas drops quite a bit during the winter months, thus reducing the price you pay per gallon. When spring returns and people start venturing out and taking vacations the prices are sure to start climbing again.

The new Georgia Gas Tax rate will go into effect on Thursday, January 8th.

It looks like a lot of native born Georgians are keeping Georgia on their minds. According to the Pew Research Center Georgia ranked third in “sticky states”, states that hold on to their native-born population. “Stickiness tells you how attractive a state is to the people who were born there,” said D’Vera Cohn, a senior writer with the Pew Research Center. Over 69% of the people born in Georgia are still living there. Only two states, Texas and North Carolina, held on to a higher percentage of their natives. The study concluded that there are many reasons as to why natives stay in their home state. Some of which include strong family ties, weather, and job opportunities. According to Ken Stewart, a commissioner with Georgia Department of Economic Development, some of Georgia’s stickiness can be attributed to job opportunities and HOPE scholarships. As for Atlanta, the city’s diversity, strength of its cultural and arts community are big draws, he said.
